Don Johnson Memorial Cup Awards presented Saturday morning
news • 2023-04-29The Awards Ceremony of the 2023 Don Johnson Memorial Cup Championship took place Saturday at lunch hour at the Milton, Queens County Memorial Hall. The ceremony began with remarks by the Member of the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly for Queens County Hon. Kim Masland, Minister of Public Works and the Mayor of the Queens Regional Municipality Darlene Norman.
The Tournament All-Star Team was announced and looks like this:
Forward - Reese Wyand - PEI - 5 goals and 1 assist in 4 round-robin games
Forward - Zachary Lorette — Antigonish — 5 goals and 2 assists in 4 round-robin games
Forward - Malcom Bussey — Liverpool — 3 goals and 3 assists in 4 round-robin games
Defense — Ethan Beaulieau - PEI
Defense — Julien LeBlanc — NB
Goaltender - Noah Visser — PEI
Most Gentlemanly Player of the Tournament — Dawson Crane — Newfoundland
MVP of the Tournament — Julien LeBlanc - New Brunswick — recorded 5 goals and 4 assists in nine games
The Guest Speaker was Troy Ryan Head Coach of Canada’s National Women’s Hockey Team and Assistant Coach of the Canadian National Men’s Hockey Team. He stressed teamwork during his remarks. It was also noted that years ago when the Chester Ravens competed in Junior B Hockey in Nova Scotia, Ryan was the only Chester Raven to ever win a Gold Medal at a World Championship.
This afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the Queens Place Emera Centre, the first of two Atlantic Semi-Finals will be played as the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs will square off against the Kent County Koyotes from New Brunswick, last year’s Atlantic Championship winner.
At 7:30 p.m. tonight, in a rematch of last night’s game the host Liverpool Privateers will play the Prince Edward Island Champions the Kensington Vipers who won 5-4 last night before close to 700 people in attendance. The winners of these two games will compete for the Atlantic Championship Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
